Are you guilty of one dimensional fitness? Does your exercise routine centre solely around running, weight lifting, spinning or yoga? Most exercise programs concentrate on one or two types of training, such as weight training or running, thereby developing strength or endurance, but little else. For example, most runners are good at running road races or marathons but lack strength and are unexplosive. Likewise, bodybuilders may look good but lack the cardio fitness to be able to run a fast 5k or 10k race. Imagine what the runner would be capable of if he combined his endurance running regime with a training program that enhanced explosive power? Climbing the hill at Valley Road in Burlington would become a cinch!
When its all said and done, truly fit people are ready for a variety of physical challenges, fitness is not one dimensional. Physically elite like Navy Seals and Marines have multidimensional fitness and can do most physical tasks well. They can run and swim all the while carrying great loads, climb over the steepest obstacles, and fight endlessly in combat. This type of fitness does not come from endless hours of running or weight lifting alone. It has come from the dedication to exercise regimes like CrossFit.
Crossfit is an exercise training method used by marines, navy seals, RCMP, police and fire academies and now by regular people striving for all round fitness. It is a method that, though fairly new to Canada, is sweeping the USA by storm. The CrossFit philosophy is that people should be prepared and able to execute a variety of physical challenges. They should be able to vault over fences, climb ropes and walls, sprint at explosive speeds, swim, play a variety of sports, perform handstand pushups, row, and the list goes on. CrossFit involves both aerobic and anarobic exercise, gymnastics, weightlifting, sprinting, rowing and core exercises. Crossfit is a way to prepare yourself for any physical challenge.
A key component to Crossfit, in addition to exercise is nutrition. Eating a paleolithic or "caveman style" diet consisting of meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar in quantities to sustain health, will increase energy while simultaneously reduce fat and increase muscle. We ask our members to commit to our nutrition regime which allows them to fast track their fitness progression.
